vRealize Automation 6.1 – Install Guide Part 7

In this multi-part series we will deploy the Identity Appliance, the vCAC Appliance, the Windows IaaS components, ITBM standard, Application Services, and a basic tenant setup.

Here in Part 7 we will walk through the deployment and configuration of Application Services.

Now let’s step through the deployment of the OVF or OVA.
02 deploy ovf

Browse to the location of your OVF or OVA.

Review details.

Review the EULA and accept.

Name your virtual machine (I choose the fqdn for my deployment). At this point it doesn’t matter just make it something you will know.

Select disk location and type.

Select the network you plan to use for the appliance, realize that vCAC appliance and IaaS will both need to be able to access this location!

Define your IP
09 ip

Check power on and click finish. This process will take a few moments depending on your storage and network configuration.
10 power on

Launch the console and enter your license key for vCAC Application Services
11 console serial

Set and confirm the password you wish to use for root. Notice the BAD PASSWORD warning, this is only a warning it will not force you to re-enter your password.
12 root pass

Set and confirm the password you wish to use for darwin_user. Notice the BAD PASSWORD warning, this is only a warning it will not force you to re-enter your password.
13 darwin user pass

Do you wish to migrate any data from an existing 6.0.1 deployment
14 migration

Enter your URL to vCAC server
https://vcacAppliance.fqdn in my example https://vcac-va-ng.biteback.records
Enter your admin user, it should be administrator@vsphere.local
Enter your password
15 registration

You will see successful registration
16 reg complete

Before you complete the process in the console we need to enable the administrative user application services rights. This will enable you to import out of the box content when that step appears in the console.
To do so log into vCAC and go to
Administration tab -> Users and search for the administrative user.
18 user

Select the user and apply the newly created Application Services roles.
19 app roles

Now you can go back to your console and import the out of the box content.

Enter your tenant, this will be the url name
Enter the user id who you just authorized
Enter your password
Enter the default business group name for that user *Notice if you have spaces you need to add double quotes for it to work.
21 tenant details

Importing will take some time but once complete you will be prompted to press any key… can you find the any key.

If prompted enter the password to set for the UI and API for the admin user defined in the application.
24 set admin password

I always set the timezone at this point but it’s not required.
25 complete set your tz

Finally log into the web interface https://appservices.fqdn:8443/darwin/org/url in my example it’s https://vcad-va-ng.biteback.records:8443/darwin/org/biteback
26 log into app

You now have built out the entire automation stack for vRealize!
