After getting this question from many customers and then clogging up a number of inboxes, I felt it was worth the effort to put this in a central place for all to consume. No matter if you are going to use this to prep for a potential on site POC, or if you just want to get hands on experience doing the install yourself, here are the details for a minimal install. *Disclaimer this is not a production worthy!
In the minimal config we will use 3 virtual servers. If you want a simple checklist, I created this quick hit checklist that you can step through to get all of the components configured. Download Checklist
- vCAC Identity Virtual Appliance – (optional if using vCenter 5.5b or newer)
Physical requirements = 1 vCPU, 2GB vRAM, 2GB disk storage - vCAC Virtual Appliance
Physical requirements = 2 vCPU, 8GB vRAM, 30GB disk storage - Windows server 2008 R2, or 2012 R2
Physical requirements = 2 vCPU, 8GB vRAM and 30GB disk storageSoftware requirements:
-MSSQL (SQLExpress Advanced)
-Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 *4.5.1 is not supported
-MS Powershell 2.0 or 3.0 (likely already installed, just validate)Account requirements:
-Domain service account for with local administrator privileges on the windows server
Environment requirements:
NTP Configured *ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT
DNS *Must be preconfigured before deploying vCAC appliances
OpenLDAP or Active Directory and a user with query access. *If you wish to use vCO to talk with Active Directory you will need an administrative user.
vCenter Server 4.1 Update 2 or newer
A single ESX host is sufficient, cluster is recommended!
